Do the scary thing and be vulnerable

Since the dawn of time, animals have been running away from the scary things. That noise in the dark could be a box falling or it could be a murderer, and since we’re hard wired to run away from danger, we’re not going to check it out in the off chance it’s a murderer. But is that realistic? And why do we associate that same scenario to being vulnerable. For people with anxious or avoidant attachments, being vulnerable is basically the same thing as facing the murderer/box in the dark. And because it’s scary, you gotta do it.

Facing our anxieties and fears are a great way to learn that those things aren’t nearly as scary as we thought they were. Remember the first time you tried a new food? Maybe it was terrible and you never want to eat it again. Maybe it was amazing and you want it all the time. The point is, now you know. Vulnerability isn’t only meant for someone else, it’s also meant for ourselves. Drop the walls (even for 5 minutes) and do the scary thing. You’ll thank yourself later.
